Are you LowCarb? Keto? Paleo? I'm confused!!

Am I doing a hand stand or a cartwheel?


Just like the picture above things can get confusing. I figured I would post an easy reference what I personally suggest in foods guide. Lets first explain what each is.

What is LowCarb?
LowCarb is technically anyone under 130g carbohydrates a day but when I say low carb I am referring to under 50g carbs a day. Low carb and Ketogenic diet go hand in hand. When you are under 50g carbs your body is in ketosis...meaning it is fueling from fat...the fat you eat and the fat on your body not from carbs.

What is Keto or the Ketogenic Diet?
Ketogenic Diet is very strict on its ratios you want to have 60% healthy fats, 35% protein (real protein not powdered), and 5% carbohydrates. So an example for females would be 150g-180g healthy fats 20g-30g carbs and 80g protein. An example for a male wanting to shred pounds and gain muscle would be 180g-200g healthy fats 20g-30g carbs 100g-120g protein.

What is an example of Healthy Fats?
Grassfed Butter, Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, Animal Fats (lard etc)

Wont fats clog my arteries?
No, healthy fats will not clog up your arteries, they are buoyant bouncy fats...they float! Ditch all transfats, corn oil, vegetable oil, canola oil, grapeseed oil, sunflower oil, ricebran oil and soybean oil. Dont just take my word for it, watch Chris Kresser on it HERE

What is Paleo?
Paleo is the whole idea of eating natural foods unadulterated by our laboratories. Paleo is the no allergen diet. Paleo is GMO free, wheat free, gluten free, grain free, dairy free and no vegetable oils, no corn oils no corn. The idea is to eat grassfed meats, if you do have milk have it be unpasteurized and from a grassfed cow, grassfed cheese if you do not have a problem with dairy, organic farm fresh vegetables and fruits. Normally paleo does not incorporate cheese due to the allergens associated to it. Sweeten foods with honey, molasses, or fruits. The only problem with Paleo is always buying organic and grassfed...I do not always do this so that's why I am almost 100% paleo. 

But I want to lose weight
If you want to lose weight you need to watch your carbs I recommend under 50g, however I personally do excellent with 27g a day.

I'm happy with my weight or I'd like to be healthier
If you are happy with your weight or would like to gain weight do paleo with or without dairy depending on your tolerance. To gain weight you will need to up your carbs....so yes you will still need to carb count. 

Breakdown
So there you have it, I am always gluten free/grain free (oats, whole grains, wheat), no corn, then I am no sugar (no added sugar no artificial sugar) and lastly I am paleo with dairy.
