After 6 years of Paleo/Keto...

I will never go back to Paleo/Keto ever again. What an interesting journey it was, at that time I knew a bit about Nutrition from the class I had to take for Nursing but beyond that, I didn't have much in-depth knowledge of Nutrition. I, unfortunately, took certain peoples words as the written truth because they had 6pack abs, biceps, and a smile. I never once thought I was a part of the marketing strategy they implemented. Gullible me only thought that they were genuinely giving out information to help people with their health.

I did my research into Paleo/Keto but I only researched one side...the Paleo/Keto promoting side. I have to admit I liked the idea of being able to eat all the bad things people always said would cause problems but to then prove them wrong. Bad things meaning, red meat, saturated fats etc, (yes organic and grass fed is still saturated hormone ridden fat too).. I did prove them wrong for that year and half, but then I was wrong and they were right.

Instead of just trying something else after that year and a half it was like the sellers ploy grip that Paleo/Keto had on me just gripped tighter. Sort of like an addiction. I was addicted to the idea of proving Paleo/Keto worked to everyone around me. I was so addicted that I was unable to focus inward and listen to what my body was trying to tell me. I thought I was the failure NOT that the diet was. So I continued on for almost 6 years total enduring the worst anxiety, panic attacks, depression, social anxiety and depression (to name a few) of my life. The beautiful thing in life is that we have the opportunity to learn adapt and overcome at anytime. I never knew I could feel happy again, I never knew I could feel THIS happy period. And the fascinating thing is that this was done with diet alone.

I have now been 3 months 100% whole foods plant based and after this "trial" period so to say, its not a trial period anymore. Im in it. Im in it for the long haul.

Heres the deal though, not all "vegan" diets are the same, there are plenty of vegan junk foods that is not healthy at all. When you go "vegan" for the health you need to invest more energy into finding how to eat for health. Here are two amazing things about the whole foods plant-based diet.

1. You no longer need to fear carbs. Healthy carbs, anything that is whole foods plant-based, eat as much as you'd like in a balanced fashion.

2. You don't have to center your meals around protein anymore as all plants have protein. WHO and IOM both suggest at least 10% of our calories come from protein. Vegans meet this goal as long as they meet their daily RDA of calories. And for bodybuilders or anyone wanting to gain muscle plant-based protein (powder or food) is more than enough to build big strong healthy natural muscles.
